Fasteners, Caulk and Finishes

Why should we sell fasteners and caulk? You can get all that locally, right? Maybe. Here is what we recommend to insure the quality wood you purchased gets installed properly and there are no surprises down the road.

If nailing over standard construction you have two choices of nails. For Cypress a double hot dipped galvanized siding nail will work great. Just make sure they are Double Hot Dipped — Not plated! Anything less will discolor or rust and streak your siding. We have Maze nails if you can’t find them locally. They are available for hand driving or nail guns. If using a nail gun we still recommend hand driving the joints to make sure you hit the stud.

If using Cedar or Redwood you need stainless steel nails or you will get nice dark circles around your nail heads. Also available from Maze in hand drive or for nail guns.

If you are using unconventional construction such as foam block or SIP panels we can advise you on the correct fasteners.

Caulk is caulk — right. Not if you are a board! We highly recommend Sashco Big Stretch Caulk. Super adhesion, incredible stretch, doesn’t string out and comes in really good colors that blend well. Cleans up with water!
